His award-winning work on show cars and hot rods caught the media’s attention, leading to features in popular magazines like Street Machine. However, Jamie’s true passion was always about something bigger—preparing 4WDs for off-road adventures in the heart of Australia.

One of Jamie’s standout projects was his custom-built Land Rover Defender 130, which became a showpiece that drew significant attention from enthusiasts and the media alike. In the rich touring history of Fraser Island (K’gari), few figures are spoken about with the same reverence as Bronco Jensen — the original Fraser Island Sand Man.

With more than one million kilometres driven on the island alone, Bronco’s story is woven into the very tracks, beaches and dune systems that have shaped generations of 4WD adventurers. For over 20 years, he drove tour buses on the island, safely guiding thousands of visitors across tidal beaches, through soft inland sand tracks, and along the legendary dune systems that define K’gari’s rugged beauty.

Long before GPS mapping and modern touring technology, Bronco relied on instinct, experience and a deep understanding of tides, weather and terrain. He mastered the art of heavy vehicle sand driving — reading the beach like a book, timing tidal runs perfectly, and navigating ever-changing tracks with confidence built over decades.

From early mechanical workhorses to modern touring fleets, he adapted — but his respect for the island and its conditions never changed.
